Kip Sturm trained at the Ruth Page Foundation School of Dance in Chicago, IL. Sturm was a member of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, reaching the rank of soloist, and joined the Dance Theatre of Harlem in 1998.

Sturm was part of the original DTH casts of Robert Garland’s Return (1999), Dwight Rhoden’s Twist (1999), Augustus van Heerden’s Memento Mori (To Remember Death) (2000), and Arthur Mitchell’s Ribbon in the Sky (2002). His other repertoire with DTH included George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments, Agon, and Serenade; Arthur Mitchell’s South African Suite; Michael Smuin’s St. Louis Woman: A Blues Ballet; John Taras’ Firebird; and Jean Coralli/Jules Perrot’s Creole Giselle (as Albert).

He also performed with the New York Theatre Ballet in 2006 and with Chicago City Ballet.

Sturm choreographed for the Pittsburgh-based youth contemporary ballet company, The Move, as well as the Playhouse Dance Company, also in Pittsburgh. Additionally, he went on to work as an instructor in New York.

Both The New York Times and the Daily Press praised Sturm for his “polished” performing in 1993 and 1992, respectively.
