Jean-Marie Didi\u00e8re trained for four years at the Paris Opera School before joining the main company. His early roles with the company included those in Carolyn Carlson\u2019s Slow, Heavy and Blue<\/em> and Density 21.5<\/em>; Paul Taylor\u2019s Aureole<\/em>; and Maurice B\u00e9jart\u2019s Bhakti III<\/em>. He created roles in John Neumeier\u2019s Vaslaw<\/em>, Violette Verdy\u2019s Variations<\/em>, and F\u00e9lix Blaska\u2019s Linea<\/em>. His lead roles with the Paris Opera included those in John Cranko\u2019s Romeo and Juliet<\/em> (Lord Capulet, Tybalt), Paquita<\/em> (Don Lopez de Mendoza), Don Quixote<\/em> (Espada), Maurice B\u00e9jart\u2019s The Rite of Spring<\/em>, Vladimir Bourmeister\u2019s Swan Lake<\/em> (Pas de Quatre), Rudolf Nureyev\u2019s Swan Lake<\/em> (Pas de Trois), Raymonda<\/em> (Abderam), Serge Lifar\u2019s Les Mirages<\/em>, Jerome Robbins\u2019 Glass Pieces<\/em>, La Bayad\u00e8re<\/em> (The Rajah), Dark Elegies<\/em>, Michel Fokine\u2019s Petrouchka<\/em>, Le Bourgeois gentilhomme<\/em>, Sch\u00e9ma<\/em>, Sleeping Beauty<\/em>, Before Nightfall<\/em>, The Nutcracker<\/em>, The Leaves are Fading<\/em>, Wuthering Heights<\/em>, Kenneth MacMillan\u2019s L’Histoire de Manon<\/em>, In Memory of\u2026<\/em>, Grande Fugue<\/em>, George Balanchine\u2019s Divertimento No. 15<\/em>, Sonata \u00e0 trois<\/em>, and Magnificat<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In addition to performing with Rudolf Nureyev for his Rudolf and Friends Abroad program, Didi\u00e8re appeared in Le Don des Etoiles<\/em> in Montreal, Canada, a \u201cone-night gathering of 22 of the world\u2019s most illustrious ballet stars,\u201d in both 1986 and 1987.<\/p>\n

In a 1979 review, London\u2019s The Observer<\/em> called Didi\u00e8re a \u201cpromising youngster.\u201d The Stage <\/em>said Didi\u00e8re \u201cled the ballet [Jerome Robbins\u2019 Glass Pieces<\/em>] with magnetic verve\u201d in 1994.<\/p>\n

Didi\u00e8re also performed modern dance, serving as a \u201cleading dancer\u201d with the Karole Armitage Dance Company. Part of his time with the company was depicted in Charles Atlas\u2019 short film Ex-Romance<\/em>.<\/p>\n
