The first attempt to establish the company in earlier years was unsuccessful. With the death of Claire Haywood, Doris Jones contacted American Ballet Theatre\u2019s first Black principal male dancer, Keith Lee (who was performing at the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts in DC) to be a guest teacher at the school.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13804\" src=\"https:\/\/mobballet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-9.34.40-PM-300x212.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mobballet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-9.34.40-PM-300x212.png 300w, https:\/\/mobballet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-9.34.40-PM-230x163.png 230w, https:\/\/mobballet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-9.34.40-PM-350x248.png 350w, https:\/\/mobballet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-9.34.40-PM.png 362w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eventually, Jones asked Lee to revive the company and become its new artistic director. He accepted and gathered 15 dancers in two months<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackdancedmv.com\/timeline\/capital-ballet\/#_ftn1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">[1]<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
