\nThe Winter in Lisbon<\/span><\/i> was the last ballet Billy Wilson choreographed.\u00a0 Created in 1992, the ballet pays tribute to four decades worth of music created by Dizzy Gillespie, an American jazz musician and composer.\u00a0 Notably, Billy Wilson\u2019s personal life was incredibly turbulent at the time.\u00a0 The success and talent showcased in the ballet demonstrates his strength and commitment to excellence despite life\u2019s challenges. The Winter in Lisbon<\/span><\/i> is a high energy ballet that showcases Billy Wilson\u2019s ability to merge his ballet and modern dance backgrounds.\u00a0 The DC Metro Theater Arts described the ballet: \u201c<\/span>The Winter in Lisbon<\/span><\/i> sparkled\u2026 sultry and slinky, snazzy and cool, and all-around lowdown and hot. Dancer slid and rolled through easy going pirouettes, fan kicks, and hip thrusting turns\u2026 Both sexy and fun, it showed off easy virtuosity.\u201d\u00a0 The ballet features bright colored, beautiful costumes, and gives the audience an impression of a party onstage.\u00a0 Furthermore, the ballet combines styles of modern dance, jazz, and ballet.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ballet\u2019s opening starts with a turquoise mist in which women, clad in high heels and vibrant dresses, set the mood dancing with their partners in a series of high kicks and turns.\u00a0 The middle section features what the <\/span>New York Times<\/span><\/i> describes as \u201can ordinary blues love duet\u2026 suddenly [turned] poignant.\u201d\u00a0 The finale features eight couples dancing in a combination that \u201cmight make you want to dance as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
