\nBilly Wilson was sought out by Doris Jones as guest artistic director of the Capitol Ballet Company in University of the District of Columbia in 1988. Of five program\u2019s debuted, three of them were created by Billy Wilson. Billy also helped with recruitment and rehearsal and stage the performances. This is where he worked with Claire Haywood. After Billy\u2019s trip to Canada he returned to Capitol Ballet and remained in the DC area. <\/span>See More<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The Capitol Ballet was the first professional ballet space for black dancers. Doris Jones who was the founder of the company in 1961 continued to make a profit and fundraise when financial mishaps started to arise in 1983. From there, she found Billy Wilson where he came to see one of the company\u2019s programs performed at the University of the District of Columbia Auditorium. Wilson wanted to make it his mission to give back to his dance educators as well as the younger dancers that looked up to him. <\/span>See More<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
