Born in Trinidad, Tina Pereira began dancing at the age of five and started training at Canada\u2019s National Ballet School at 12. Pereira\u2019s professional career began in 2001 at The National Ballet of Canada, and, after dancing with the Het Nationale Ballet for two years, she rejoined NBoC in 2006. She won The Seventh International Competition for The Erik Bruhn Prize in 2007 and became a first soloist with the company in 2009.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pereira’s repertoire includes lead roles such as The Sugar Plum Fairy in <\/span>The Nutcracker<\/span><\/i>, Carmen in <\/span>Carmen<\/span><\/i>, Lise in <\/span>La Fille mal gard\u00e9e<\/span><\/i>, Valencienne in <\/span>The Merry Widow<\/span><\/i>, Katerina in <\/span>The Taming of the Shrew<\/span><\/i>, Spring in <\/span>The Four Seasons<\/span><\/i>, Le Serpent in <\/span>Le Petit Prince<\/span><\/i>, Perditia and the Young Shepherdess in <\/span>The Winter\u2019s Tale<\/span><\/i>, as well as roles in Wayne McGregor\u2019s <\/span>Chroma<\/span><\/i>, Twyla Tharp\u2019s <\/span>In the Upper Room<\/span><\/i>, George Balanchine\u2019s <\/span>Symphony in C<\/span><\/i>, and Sir Frederick Ashton\u2019s <\/span>Monotones I<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span>She has performed in major cities such as New York, London, Toronto, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, and Paris.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pereira was the subject of <\/span>TINA<\/span><\/i>, a short film released in May 2020; the documentary follows Pereira\u2019s recovery from an injury.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pereira also founded Ballerina Couture, a leotard and dancewear brand designed by Pereira and handmade in Canada. The company came to be while the dancer was recovering from her injury, experimenting with a sewing machine and eventually creating pieces for her fellow dancers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ballet Couture was a sponsor for our first in-person MoBBallet Symposium: Inspiration, Education, Perspiration in 2019; the ladies LOVED their leotards!<\/p>\n
