Joburg Ballet: Principal

Claudia Monja was born in Havana, Cuba. She performed for the corps de ballet of the Ballet de Camagüey and the Joburg Ballet in Giselle, Swan Lake, Cinderella, La Bayadère, and Don Quixote. She was the Dying Swan as well as soloist in Le Corsaire, The Nutcracker, and Coppélia. Together with fellow dancer Keke Chele she choreographed Havana, based on a popular Cuban salsa dance. She has toured in Colombia, Italy, Ecuador, China, and Botswana. Ms. Monja won the Madge Cade Award for services to Joburg Ballet.
