New York native Lisa Vernon Sparks is a former professional dancer with Ballet Memphis. Vernon graduated from Columbia University in 2000 and received her MBA from Boston’s Northeastern University in 2014.

Vernon began working as a print journalist in 2001. She has written for New Jersey’s Star-Ledger, the Homes News Tribune, and Rhode Island’s Providence Journal. She currently works as a senior reporter for Virginia’s Daily Press.

Regarding the similarities between journalism and ballet, Vernon said, “both are non-verbal types of communications that can convey the strongest messages.”
