Vicente Abad is a Venezuelan dancer who was born in 1940. He trained at the Escuela Nacional de Ballet with Nena Coronil and the Academia Interamericana de Ballet with Irma and Margot Contreras. Abad’s dancing earned him a grant that allowed him to finish his ballet education at the Royal Ballet School in London. Abad joined the Dutch National Ballet in 1962, performing in works like Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, The Firebird, and many more. Abad left the Dutch National Ballet in 1968 and danced with other companies like the Ballet of Wallonia, the Ballet of Brussels Opera, Opera de Toulon, and Opera of Nantes. He became the artistic director of the Opera of Nantes ballet company in 1974. In 1978 he started his own contemporary dance ensemble called Le Groupe Chorégraphique de l’Opera de Nantes. After a long stint in Europe, Abad returned home to Venezuela and worked as a ballet master at different companies and schools.
