Ruan Galdino

Joburg Ballet: Senior Soloist (2015-present)

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Ruan Galdino began ballet studies in 2005 at Setor de Atividades Fisicas e Culturais do Colegio Pedro II SAAC. His teachers included Ana Palmieri, Romulo Ramos, Victor Ciattei, Paulo Melgaço, Vadim Germanovich, Piotr Rusanov, Maria Wakhrusheva, and Veronika Pyzhikova. He studied for four years at the Escola Estadual de Dança Maria Olenewa Foundation of the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and after was awarded a two-year scholarship to the American Academy of Ballet, New York and was a soloist with BALLETARRJ Young Company in 2014 and 2015. He won awards in national competitions in Brazil and was a participant in the New York finals of the Youth America Grand Prix in 2015; a participant in the World Ballet Competition in Orlando, Florida in 2014; and a semi-finalist in the Professional Category in 2015. He was invited by director Ruslan Nurtdinov to perform in Russia in Black Swan with R&A International Productions in 2015. In September 2015, he joined Joburg Ballet where he now holds the rank of senior soloist. His repertoire before joining Joburg Ballet included Coppélia, The Rite of Spring, Le Corsaire, The Pharaoh’s Daughter, Diana and Actaeon Pas de Deux, Flames of Paris Pas de Deux, and Le Corsaire Pas d’Esclave. At Joburg Ballet his repertoire includes leading roles in Carmen; The Sleeping Beauty; Don Quixote; Cinderella; Snow White; Giselle; Big City, Big Dreams; Raymonda; The Nutcracker, and many shorter ballets and divertissements. Galdino is a co-founder of Blacks in Ballet.
