Simone Cardoso was a member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem ca. the early to mid 1990s, eventually becoming a Soloist with the company. As a company member, Cardoso danced the “Lake” pas de deux in Alvin Ailey’s The River in 1994 and performed in DTH’s premiere of Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe’s Sasanka in 1997 at the Kennedy Center.
The Chicago Tribune called Cardoso “superb” in a 1995 performance of Roy Cunningham’s Etosha. In 1999, The Wall Street Journal described her as “radiant” in Balanchine’s Bugaku.
Cardoso joined American Repertory Ballet in 1999. She danced the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in ARB’s production of The Nutcracker for the first time the same year she joined the company.
