Felipe Domingos was born ca. 1998 and raised in São Paolo, Brazil. His uncle inspired him to dance and led seven-year-old Felipe’s first dance class at their church. At age 10, Domingos started studying at Ballet Paula Gasparini in Brazil, taking jazz before he was offered a scholarship for ballet classes. His instructors included Paula Gasparini, Alexandre Fernandes, Eduardo Bonnis, Toshie Kobayashi, Laura Alonso, Tony Oliver and Sandra Saez.
Domingos has been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships: first place at the 2013 Joinville Dance Festival, a scholarship to study at both the Princess Grace Academy and American Ballet Theatre by competing at the Youth America Grand Prix, finalist at the 2015 Alana Haines Australasian Awards, and the scholarship via the 2014 YAGP that enabled him to study at the New Zealand School of Dance.
At 18 years old, Domingos joined Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2016. During his two and a half years with the company, he performed in the premieres of Jiri Bubenicek’s The Piano: the Ballet, Francesco Ventriglia’s The Wizard of Oz and Romeo and Juliet, and Liam Scarlett’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Hong Kong and Wellington. His other repertoire included William Forsythe’s In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, Roland Petit’s Carmen and L’Arlésienne, and Alexander Ekman’s Episode 31 and Cacti.
He left RNZB in July 2018 to join the Finnish National Ballet.
