Amy Johnson was raised and trained in New Orleans. Johnson joined Arthur Mitchell’s Dance Theatre of Harlem around 1999. As a member of the company, her repertoire included Michael Smuin’s St. Louis Woman: A Blues Ballet (as the Butterfly), Arthur Mitchell’s South African Suite, Loyce Houlton’s Wingborne, Laveen Naidu’s Viraa, and Royston Maldoom’s Adagietto #5. She said of dancing, “It pleases me to make other people happy.”
