Carol Foster

Capitol Ballet

Carol Foster started her dancing training at age five and studied ballet, tap, African dance, and modern at the Jones Haywood School of Ballet before joining the Capitol Ballet. With the company, she performed Doris W. Jones’ Rhapsody in Blue on November 20, 1977 at the Lisner Auditorium. 

Foster studied Visual Arts Education at Hampton University and Dance Education at George Washington University. 

She is a Special Programs Associate and founding member of the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD), Emergency Preparedness Consultant for the performing arts, and a member of Joy of Motion’s Board of Directors. Her other occupations have been founder and artistic director of the DC Youth Ensemble, teacher in Washington DC public schools, Dead of Arts at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, director of the Arlington Youth Street Theater, and Adjunct Professor at the University of the District of Columbia. 

Foster was awarded the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Mayor’s Art Award.
