Joan Myers Brown, Delores Browne, and Judith Jamison embody the elegance and audaciousness of their mentors.

Judith Jamison is an icon and best known as the Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for 21 years.

Delores Browne is one of Philadelphia’s first black professional ballerinas and her name and story should be recongnized and lifted up.

Joan Myers Brown is best known for founding the Philadelphia School of Dance Arts and world-renown Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO!)

Although King and Cuyjet might

not have had the opportunity to

dance professionally as ballet

dancers, through their teaching

they have produced many: Billy

Wilson, John Jones, China Melva

White, Donna Lowe, and Elmer

Ball are just some of the first

generation.

 

 Their legacy wraps the globe.

through their lineage unbeknownst to the legacy that gave them the opportunity.
