Maurice Johnson is from Greenville, South Carolina and began dancing at age 11. His training began at Greenville Ballet and Fine Arts Center and continued at Dance Theatre of Harlem, Boston Ballet, and The Rock School on full scholarship. Johnson graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2005 and has danced with Nashville Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Miriam Barbosa Dance Company, and as a guest with the South Carolina Contemporary Dance Company.

Johnson is currently a first soloist with Columbia City Ballet.

His repertoire with the company includes Sleeping Beauty, Off the Wall and Onto the Stage: Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green, and The Nutcracker, among others.
