Harry Mark Burns Jr. trained at the Joffrey School of Ballet, the School of American Ballet, and New York University, where he got a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After receiving his degree, Burns joined Dance Theatre of Harlem. In his decade with the company, Burns performed extensively—reaching the rank of soloist—and taught in their educational outreach program. Subsequently, Burns was a principal dancer with Collage Dance Collective and The Georgia Ballet, where he was also a teacher. He has also been a guest artist with Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Brooklyn Ballet. Over his career, Burns has performed leading roles by choreographers such as George Balanchine, Alonzo King, Alvin Ailey, John Alleyne, Dwight Rhoden, and William Forsythe. Today, Burns continues his robust teaching career with a particular focus on education in his local Atlanta, Georgia community.
