Billy Wilson choreographed for the musical Louis in 1981. It ran for 12 performances beginning Sept 18, 1981. Louis was directed by Gilbert Moses and performed by Northern J. Calloway, Debbie Allen, Ernestine Jackson, Ken Page, Tiger Haynes and Marcella Lowry. Louis is a musical about Louis Armstrong, a beloved late trumpet player of the times. ”Louis” was performed at the Henry Street Settlement’s New Federal Theater, at 566 Grand Street (598-0400),NY.

Louis is a musical based on the early career of Louis Armstrong, will open the 1981-82 season of the New Federal Theater, 466 Grand Street, with a 12-performance run beginning Sept. 18 in the Harry deJur Playhouse. Directed by Gilbert Moses, the production has book and lyrics by Don Evans and music by Michael Renzi; choreography is by Billy Wilson.
In the leading role is Northern J. Calloway, who appeared in the Broadway production of ”Pippin.” Other Broadway actors in the show are Debbie Allen from ”West Side Story”; Ernestine Jackson, of ”Guys and Dolls” and ”Raisin”; Ken Page of ”Guys and Dolls” and ”Ain’t Misbehavin’ ”; Tiger Haynes from ”The Wiz” and Marcella Lowery of ”Lolita.” (See More)
