Pathways To Performance Choreographic Program for All Genres!!
MoBBallet is working to create a virtual Pathways program that welcomes Black makers in all genres In keeping with MoBBallet’s 360˚ approach to transforming the field of ballet, originally Pathways To Performance (PTP) was designed to cultivate and mentor Black choreographers (and those of color) who are working specifically in the ballet idiom.
PTP supports Black contemporary choreographers (and those of color) who are interested in investigating working in the ballet genre, while helping established but unknown and overlooked makers break glass ceilings that have prevented them from leveling up in the dance world, by providing concrete opportunities for them to create work and have it presented on main stages around the US and beyond. We are contemplating holding a virtual version of of our Choreographic Program which would be open choreographers of all genres.
The program would be held via Zoom over the course of 4-5 Saturday sessions (sessions would be no less than 3 hours long)
The program would follow a curriculum designed by MoBBallet Founder Theresa Ruth Howard.
- Curriculum includes:
- Choreographic Analysis
- Building Structure
- Studio Management and Culture
- Development of Movement Vocabulary
- Time Management
- Negotiation of Contracts
- Building a Team of Collaborators
- Building a Network
Program Director: Christian Von Howard, Montclair State University
Potential Mentors :
- Donald Byrd (Artistic Director Spectrum Dance Theatre)
- Jennifer Archibald
- Robert Binet (Choreographic Associate of the National Ballet of Canada)
- William Forsythe
