More about Paul Sutherland
At age eighteen, Sutherland was an ROTC lieutenant colonel with a scholarship to West Point, but after seeing Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo, he decided to change career paths and become a ballet dancer. Sutherland enrolled at a ballet studio two days later and was offered a contract at American Ballet Theatre within two years, with his first role being one of the cowboys in Rodeo. Agnes de Mille later appointed Sutherland as the only repétiteur authorized to teach Rodeo in 1979, and since then Sutherland has staged the show over 60 times.
