Thabang Mabaso
Joburg Ballet: Soloist
Thabang Mabaso was born in Orange Farm, SA. He attended the National School of the Arts, Johannesburg, where he studied drama and dance. In 2012 he joined Joburg Ballet as an aspirant dancer and in 2014 was promoted to the corps de ballet. He now holds the rank of soloist.
He has danced roles in The Nutcracker Re-Imagined, La Bayadère, Swan Lake, Paquita, Flower Festival at Genzano, Giselle, The Nutcracker, and The Sleeping Beauty as well as in several shorter ballets. He has studied the Cuban ballet teaching methodology and the Cecchetti Method and teaches ballet for Joburg Ballet and Joburg Ballet School. In 2014 he participated in the South African International Ballet Competition, reaching the semi-finals. He has toured with Joburg Ballet to Oman and China and has been awarded the Marigold Hutton Award for services to Joburg Ballet.
