Candace (Candy) Veecock

Ballet Jörgen

Canadian dancer Candace (Candy) Veecock, a professor of applied linguistics, is a former member of Ballet Jörgen in Toronto, Canada. Veecock explained her reasoning for joining the company, saying, “I joined this company… because they put diversity on Canadian stages.” Ballet Jörgen is the fifth largest ballet company in Canada and performs exclusively original pieces. Veecock danced George Balanchine’s Agon, Michael Downing’s Channel, and Randy Glynn’s Capricciosa at the 1994 Banff Festival in Alberta. 

Veecock performed with Ballet Jörgen for five years and then transitioned into life as an academic, attending York University and earning a BA and MA in French Studies. She lived and earned her PhD in France before becoming a faculty member of the University of Nottingham Ningbo in China. Though she’s busy with teaching, research, writing, and raising her three children, Veecock still takes open ballet classes.
