Adrian Vincent James is a native of Washington, DC, who began his artistic guidance under director Mike Malone in 1970. This led him to win scholarships to study at Jones-Haywood School of Ballet, School of American Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. Mr. James became the first African American selected to dance with Houston Ballet.

He earned his B.F.A. in Drama /Directing from Howard University and M.A. in Performing Arts – Dance from the American University. He has danced with the Capitol Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, Houston Ballet and LaVerne Reed Dancers. He taught and choreographed on faculty at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Howard University, Divine Dance Institute, and is currently on faculty at The Washington School of Ballet.

Adrian is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
